A New Project For Bas!

The latest arrival for Bas at home is a Bloodhound, who goes by the name of Gertrude (Gurty). She has been bred locally and comes from two successful Trials parents. Bas hopes to train her to track and use her in competitions and searches.

At present we are just doing very short easy ‘lines’ for her but of course as time goes on things will get harder and harder. Bas is also hoping that he can interest his local police, when she is working well enough, to help look for missing persons in the area.

For the time being though Bas is working two other hounds (Homer, right of picture (Gurty’s dad) and Denzil) in preparation for Bloodhound Working Trials coming up in October. This opportunity was offered to Bas following a recent bad fall by one of their owners who is recovering, thankfully.

This will be a great opportunity to learn a lot more about the breed and I hope I can do them justice. It is already well an established fact that the Bloodhound has a very good nose but I can tell you that since my involvement with the breed the nose of these dogs is far superior to that of any dog that I have met or have worked and I include my own (Hattie) in that too, I know how good her nose is due to scientific measurement.
